GECELCA is a company that generates and sells electricity and is committed to the timely and effective response to its customers’ requirements.

We purchase and sell electricity in the wholesale market to serve other operations and end users, in accordance with current regulations.

The sale of electricity is based on the strict compliance of current regulations and the procedures set out by the company. For this purpose, GECELCA S.A. E.S.P. observes the following decision-making guidelines:

E.S.P. observes the following decision-making guidelines: Periodical review of the evolution of the country’s hydrological variables, such as water reserves and contributions, and in general the expected hydrological conditions.

Monitor the evolution of the wholesale electricity market price, as well as the projections made by the market administrator.

Know the annual maintenance plan of the plants owned and marketed by GECELCA and estimating the energy available for sale to deregulated customers and agents of the sector.

Monitor the evolution of the market in relation to the prices and quantities of energy contracted by generating agents and marketers through the transactional mechanisms in force for the regulated market.

Inspect the construction and operation schedule of new generation projects and thus identify increases in the country’s installed capacity.

Analyze the market administrator’s reports on the behavior of contract and transaction prices in the power exchange.

One of the most important segments of GECELCA S.A. E.S.P. is the sale of its electrical energy to other agents of the sector engaged in the generation and/or sale of electricity to serve their market and/or cover exposure risks in the Power Exchange.

The sale of energy can take place through public or private calls for tenders opened by the agents of the sector or by direct procurement.

In GECELCA S.A. E.S.P. we serve deregulated customers, individuals, or legal entities, with a maximum demand of more than 0.1 MW, or a minimum monthly consumption of 55 MWh per legalized installation, through electricity purchases are at freely agreed prices.

To establish whether the consumption of facilities complies with the regulations, the power or energy demand is calculated as the average of monthly billings, under normal operating conditions, measured at the individual delivery site during the last 6 months prior to the date on which the condition is checked. For these purposes, demands or consumptions of the different legalized installations may not be aggregated, whether they belong to a single user or to several.

The sale of energy is different from the distribution activity, which is carried out by the grid operator, who is in charge of delivering electrical energy to the end users, making use of the grids and being responsible for their maintenance.
