GENERACIÓN DE ENERGÍA ELÉCTRICA

Community Support

Beyond generating energy, our main purpose is to do good. That is why we work tirelessly to support those who need it most. To this end, we lead activities to improve and provide community infrastructure, we do corporate volunteering, we provide ecological points, we train communities, and we provide psychosocial support to senior citizens through our Years of Plenitude program. We also support government initiatives and offer training and education opportunities for leaders of Community Action Boards and Councils in leadership, emergency management, climate change and good use of resources.

Recreation and Sports

At GECELCA, we do our best effort for our children and youth! We do so through different activities to promote culture, recreation, and the use of free time.

We also improve the infrastructure of sports institutions, provide sports equipment to educational institutions and communities, and install and improve playgrounds. At the same time, we support soccer championships, art schools, commemoration of special dates, movie evenings and Christmas celebrations.

Health

At GECELCA, we know that when there is health, there is wealth. Therefore, our commitment to the communities is nonstop. We develop health brigades with specialists, promotion and prevention strategies, deworming campaigns, oral health campaigns, and infrastructure improvement.

With the support of local hospitals and the municipal secretaries, we carry out an annual health brigade with quality specialized medical care for the population of our areas of influence. The brigades include consultations in general medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, otorhinolaryngology, dermatology, and psychology, as well drug prescriptions.

Income Generation

For GECELCA, transforming possibilities into opportunities, by leading initiatives aimed at the sustainable development of the region, is to build the future. Therefore, from our social management strategy, we promote entrepreneurship through productive projects that improve the quality of life of communities and strengthen their capacity for self-management and generation of progress.

In La Guajira, we support artisanal fishing, agriculture, fruit processing and bakery projects. In Cordoba, we promote agricultural, agribusiness, and recycling enterprises. All this through training, psychosocial support, and the delivery of materials, equipment, and supplies for the productive units.

Education

At GECELCA, we believe that by transforming lives through education we are a source of development and progress for the country. Therefore, our main strategy is focused on improving the educational quality of children and youth in our areas of influence, with the following programs and activities:
Full scholarship for talented students from the Caribbean Region pursuing Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degrees at Universidad del Norte, in Barranquilla. We cover the cost of tuition for the entire degree, as well as books, supplies, housing, food, transportation, and all levels of English language at the same institution.
In partnership with the National Learning Service (SENA), we created the second Mining School in the country, first in the Caribbean Region. It has trained young people in heavy machinery. The training is face-to-face and online, with simulators, real machines, and field engagement, which guarantees a more efficient process.

We improve the infrastructure of educational institutions, provide classrooms and laboratories, give inductions to university life, hold mathematics and Spanish language workshops, train teachers, and offer sex education for young people.

Based on the sustainability principles, we carry out reforestation activities, recycling campaigns, clean-up days and environmental education workshops in communities, thus supporting the School Environmental Projects (PRAE).
